With a year of L.A. living under my belt, I can finally say that I am a regular at certain places. I have my favorite bookstores, my favorite taco spots and of course, my favorite coffee shops!
When I first moved here, I did what every caffeine fiend does: googled a list of the best coffee shops in Los Angeles. Then, I tried them all. Well, some of them. Some I liked. Others didn’t exactly make me feel zen enough to settle in and whip out a good book (or my laptop!) and I took my coffee to go. And after a belly full of beans and croissants, I have a few favorites. If you’re looking for a good coffee, flaky pastries, and WIFI (!), here are four coffee shops I love.
Note that some of these places have multiple locations, but my favorite location is at the address listed. And much like every place in L.A. (seriously!) parking can be a bit of a nightmare.
582 Mateo St. Los Angeles, CA 90013
Located in the Arts District, Blue Bottle has a pretty industrial feel. It’s big enough that you’re not cramped beside people when you sip your drink, but still small enough to feel homey. Whenever I go here I always order a croissant and a latte. The latter is a perfect balance of bitter and sweet and I can’t get enough of it. The friendly staff here doesn’t hurt either. Plus, if you’re the type that likes to pose with your coffee cup, it’s a photo-friendly space.
Alchemist Coffee Project
698 Vermont Ave #103, Los Angeles, CA 90005
Nestled in Koreatown, this coffee shop has AMAZING avocado toast. I know what you’re thinking. You came here for coffee not food, but hear me out. You can’t inhale caffeine on an empty stomach — or at least I can’t. Whatever. The coffee is good too, but seriously that avocado toast is everything.
Verve - Melrose
8925 Melrose Ave, West Hollywood, CA 90069
At the end of the Melrose Strip, you’ll find Verve. This is another place with great iced coffee and amazing avocado toast. Are you sensing a pattern here? Additionally, this is the place to be for creatives. On any given afternoon you can find a bunch of people working diligently on their laptops. Hey, you might even see an actor, director, or producer stroll in. And they likely ordered the avocado toast too. Just saying.
Go Get ‘Em Tiger
230 N Larchmont Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90004
I’ll be totally honest: what drew me to this place initially was them. It has a certain sort of happy ring to it right? Luckily, that’s not all it has going for it. What sets their coffee apart from every other coffee shop is their sweet, creamy almond macadamia nut milk. And it tastes as good as it sounds.
What other coffee shops in L.A. should I try? Let me know in the comments!
